Top 5 Improvements of Microsoft Office 2010

If you are like me, you do not necessary like when Microsoft releases new versions of their Office Suite. The reason being is not necessarily if one version is ‘better’ or ‘worse’ than the other, it is simply a matter of familiarity.  I know for me personally, when excel changed drastically a few years back, I was like a lost kid in a supermarket – scared and confused.  I have spent years dominating spreadsheets in the old version, but now I had no idea where to find the tools that I was accustomed to using.   It took time and effort to become familiar and by then, a new release is on the horizon.  Fortunately the latest version of Microsoft Office is better in terms of ease of use, functionality and layout of icons and ribbon bars.  Here are my top 5 improvements in Microsoft Office 2010:

The video Icon is located in the Insert Menu:

A Dialog box will appear that will allow you to insert a link for videos that you want to upload from the web.  The link will automatically imbed with the current PowerPoint Slide that you are working in.

4) Imbedded PDF Writer

You can now create, save and send documents in PDF form as an option in the drop down box “Save Type As” in the Save As dialog box.  This feature is now built in, where before you would have to either purchase third party software of download third party freeware to have the ability to save MS Office documents as PDF files.

3) Alternative Info View

Under the File tab you can now access this ‘info’ page that lays out important info on your documents properties, as well as quicker access to system level functions such as printing, saving and sharing.

2) Word, Outlook’s OneNote’s seamless Integration

In the file menu within Word, Outlook and Excel 2010 you will find the “Linked Notes OneNote” icon.  When you click this icon you will see the “Select Location in OneNote” text box appear.  Inside this box you will find options to copy and population the native word doc or outlook email massage within you OneNote Notebooks.  This simple tool is great to for keeping master records of  emails and documents you have prepared for colleagues and clients in one simple location.

1) Outlook Ribbon Bar

Microsoft greatly improves the layout and functionality of their primary tools with Outlook 2010.  This newly improved ribbon bar makes Outlook simpler and faster to use, with a more user-friendly graphical user interface.
