Top 3 Highlights of Google+
Google is clearly the industry leader in terms of search engines. Now they are venturing into the world of social networking online. In a move to take Facebook down a peg or two, the search engine monster announced this week that they will be launching Google+.
The site is being branded a “Real life-sharing, rethought for the web” – Here are the top 3 highlights:
Circles
Google is attempting to differentiate its site from others through the use of a “Circles” feature. This allows you to share different things with different people. You may want to create a circle of college friends when they dig up pictures of you inebriated and dressed up as Beetlejuice at a Halloween party that you forgot you attended 10 years ago. Grandpa and Grandma may be better off in your family circle, protecting you from the embarrassment of your friends commenting on pictures of you in the bathtub 26 years ago.
Sparks
As more and more people use the internet for reading articles and news stories, listen to music and watch videos, sparks is a tool that will automatically search for videos and articles that you may like. Similar to Tivo recommending shows based on your history, Sparks will ensure that you always have something new to read, watch and share.
Hangouts
This feature allows for Group Video Chat with a bunch of people at your fingertips 24/7. When you log into Google+ you will have the ability to see which one of you friends may be hosting a “Hangout” and who else is enjoying. Want to talk about the big game tonight, or maybe a Hangout has been created for the High School reunion, you will never know who my stop by for a face to face chat. As Google says on their website, “Until we perfect teleportation, it’s the next best thing.”
