Dodging Google
I wrote a post recently about how Google is getting so big, powerful, and omni-present that it’s starting to get a little backlash.
So is there a way to “dodge” Google?
The answer is yes. One way was pointed out in an article in the February 2, 2009 issue of Fortune Magazine, in an article titled “Yes, You Can Dodge Google”.
The article references a company called Drop.io, which allows you to host content on the web that is free from Google’s and other search engine’s reach.
It’s a really slick service.
The best way to get a sense of its capabilities is to view their quick demo. In a nutshell, you can:
- Create private spaces on the web
- Upload files of all types
- Share them with friends and/or co-workers
- Collaborate on files
- All with complete privacy; nobody can find them on the web
If you are looking for an easy way to share files on the web, I definitely recommend that you check it out.
