A handy tip for getting content into Microsoft OneNote
We did a post a while ago about how powerful Microsoft OneNote is, and it seems many of you took our advice and started using it – glad to hear it!
I’ve been using it myself for several months now, and it just keeps getting better and better for me, thanks to a few simple tricks that I’m picking up along the way.
Most recently, I’ve been wondering what the most efficient way is to get information from other sources into OneNote. Three scenarios come to mind:
- When someone sends me an email that I would like to capture the content of in OneNote
- When I have Microsoft Word file that I would like to capture the content of in OneNote
- When I’ve found a website that I would like to capture the contents of in OneNote
It turns out that Microsoft has a handy solution for all of these – it’s called the “Send to OneNote” button!
Moving the contents of an email into OneNote
Of course, you can always cut and paste. But if you are using Outlook 2007 for your email, you have an even better option. Just click the “Send to OneNote” button and the information will fly right over! The button is located in the upper-right of your ribbon.
Moving the contents of a Word document into OneNote
This one is a little bit harder to find, but still very easy. Just choose the Print option, just like you are going to send the document to a printer. Scroll through your list of printer options, and you will see “Send to OneNote” as one of your options. Choose this and hit Print and the contents will fly right over.
Moving a website to OneNote
Leave it to Microsoft to find another reason to keep you using their browser instead of a competitor’s. If you are in Internet Explorer, the “Send to OneNote’ button can be configured to sit as a shortcut in your toolbar – making it one click to send a website into OneNote.
Good luck!
I hope these tips help make for a productive holiday season!
