Choosing a WiFi Password
A lot has been written lately about password, hackers and security. Something that hasn’t been covered at all is the need for a secure password to protect your WiFi network.
I’m writing this article while waiting in line with my daughter to see the latest Harry Potter movie. I had some time to kill while sitting here and broke out my laptop. When I turned it on, it dutifully reported that there were no less than 15 wireless networks in range.
Rightfully so, they all were running in secure mode. That’s a good sign. The problem is that some of them used very obvious passwords. For example, one nearby network had a two name ID and its password was the first word. Not very secure.
So just take this as a warning, securing your WiFi router with WPA security isn’t enough. You still need to choose a password that is not easily guessed. You can see my earlier posts on choosing a password that will give you guidelines on what makes up a good password and what doesn’t.
Remember that security is only as good as your weakest link. You need to be vigilant in choosing securing your network otherwise you may become a statistic.
