Go green with your technology

Today more then ever we should be thinking about ways to lessen our carbon footprints. By making slight changes in our lives we can ultimately make huge changes in the “going green” effort. While computer technology seems standardized in terms of its ‘greenness,’ it is not. There are several simple things you can do to make your technology greener right away.

Here is a list of 7 simple ways you can make your interactions with technology greener

1. Print in duplex
2. Set your printers to go to sleep after 5- 10 min
3. Use flat screens versus CRTs ( you know, the old huge monitors that took up half of your desk?)
4. Set you computer and monitors to sleep or shutdown at night
5. Turn off your lights when you leave the office
6. Use virtual servers to reduce hardware
7. Recycle electronics and parts like circuit boards, memory, printer cartridges, etc. These can be found at Earthworm in Boston or EcoCycle in Colorado.
