Google Voice Local Search is Google’s experimental service to make local-business search accessible over the phone. To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone. Google Voice Local Search is strictly automated and does not involve live customer service representatives.

This service allows the user to search for local businesses by name or by category and automatically connect for free. When prompted, Google asks the user for the city and state, or asks for a specific business or business category. The system will either connect you or will also send the information to your mobile phone via text just by saying “text message” To perform another search simply say “start over” or “back” to return to a previous menu.

The service is still experimental, but appears to have gotten off to a good start. It is still unclear how Google will allow small businesses to advertise on this service, but it could be another great opportunity for small business owners. Go ahead and give it a try!
