Software Review – 1Password
Hey all,
How often a day are you digging through your emails, or notes, looking for that password to your bank information, or your favorite consumer site? Sometimes you just can’t find it, and then you get stuck in a vicious circle of “forgot password’s” and CAPTCHA’S (you know those ridiculously curvy funny letters you need to type, but never make any sense?)
Well…
1Password is here to save the day!
This simple to use, and affordable tool has increased my productivity in my work and home life by 1000x’s!!! And it’s totally secure (well as secure as your master password of course..please don’t use 123456 or Password1 or something!). AND it has an iPod, iPhone, Mac, PC, and Linux version…can you say OPEN SOURCE! We love open source apps. (hint hint dev’s)
How does it work?
- When logging into a new site for the first time (after that pesky registration of course), you will get a prompt at your tool bar that asks if you’d like to save your login in 1Password. Name it, categorize it, and saved! You can also have 1Password generate a strong password for you (ex. !RTG$#@@Y#%Hdaih2%)…which since you don’t need to remember it anymore…GREAT! Who the heck will guess that one?
- Next time you return to this site, you have a 1P button in your browser, where you select the login you would like to use. You can multiple logins for each site as well.
- As you can see in the screenshot, you can have credit cards and identities as well, along with bank account information and key account information. All under lock and key of your master password and 256 AES encryption. When purchasing that new cool toy on Amazon.com, you can just open the 1PASSWORD application, login, copy and paste your credit card information, all encrypted on the screen, and voila! you don’t have to dig through your wallet anymore…
- Need it on your iPad or iPhone…also under lock and key of your master password, all your information under a locked fingertip..
HOW TO GET IT!?!?!?
1) Install 1Password you can get a free trial from 1password.com (FREE TRIAL – they offer individual or family packs)
2) Create a master password upon first launch, (make it strong…Cap letter, number, symbol, letters)
Off you go!
