Quickbooks 2012 for Mac? Ready for Prime Time?
Intuit has announced Quickbooks 2012 for Mac, the latest vernon of the company’s financial management software for small to medium sized businesses. This version with be Mac OS X Lion compatible, and is set to ship on 9/26. It will offer over 50 new features and enhancements.
Intuit has released that the primary goal of this version is to really cater to the users of Quickbooks for Mac, not just Quickbooks. Demographically, Mac businesses are typically small businesses. In fact, Intuit revealed that 60 percent of its Quickbooks for Mac customers are sole proprietors of their businesses, and primarily in service industries.
Dan Wernikoff, senior vice president and GM of Intuit’s Financial Management Solutions division, stated:
“As more and more small businesses adopt Macs, we see increased adoption of QuickBooks for Mac. In response, we’ve recommitted ourselves to making the product even better. With Apple’s new Lion OS, we focused on a simple, elegant and easy to use native experience, while continuing to add new features that save small businesses time.”
The focus in this latest update is a new user experience.
According to Intuit, feature enhancements include:
- Guide Me – a list of top-used features: an active blog where users can get updates; and assistance an support that comes in the form of a 60 minute personalized setup with each purchase
- New customer summary including information like open balance, recent transaction, and notes.
- Faster access to information enabled by improved search tools utilizing Apple Spotlight engine, customer and vendor history panels and transaction lists. Users can also save their searches as smart searches.
- Online banking integration, fueled by acquisition of Mint.com, improving transactions that are imported into Quickbooks.
- Simplifications for multi-step tasks, including batch processing for online banking transaction and new invoicing options
It appears that Intuit has made great strides in enhancing this version of Quickbooks to provide a very elegant solution, but I do believe that it may still be missing many components that Windows Quickbooks users are looking for in order to make the full switch.
We shall see!
