Let face it, computers could get infected for numerous reasons with spyware, malware, tracking software and other malicious pieces of code. We can do our best to minimize our risk by staying away from high risk web sites, emails and other catalysts to this type of software, but the people who design this software get more and more sneaky by the minute. They prey on common behaviors and processes in hopes of opening the flood gates to your PC.
In the event that you get infected I have created a flow chart to help “most” of the common infections out there. I have taken into account common configurations an the most popular infections. In the event you get caught in a loop and are unable to complete the steps necessary to clear your infection, I would recommend getting a professional and experienced tech to complete the test.
There are many types of infections requiring various paths in order to clear them. If you attempt to clear your own infection, keep in mind that some of the more advanced threats need manual intervention, more advance tools that take longer and more thorough scans. Even with all the experience in the world sometimes the solution will be to wipe and rebuild the whole machine. I have cleared countless PCs and I am really confident that this flow charts success rate will be up there.
As always if you have any comments, questions, suggestions or recommendations I would love to hear them. asalas@everonit.com
