Cached Exchange Mode in Outlook

Ever come into the office and not be able to access your email in Outlook due to an internet or server problem? How about a ton of email you just can’t seem to part with or work with large attachments and Outlook seems sluggish?

If your company uses an Exchange based email server (most do) there is a check box you will want to make sure is marked. This will allow your computer to store a local copy of your email providing two key benefits:

  1. Will allow access to email previously synced even with no internet or server connection.  Also works well for the business road warrior who wants to review email in between internet hook ups.
  2. In some cases, this will also increase performance by having the email stored locally: basically a mirrored copy of what’s on the server.

Throughout each version of Outlook, Microsoft has slightly changed how to get there. Click the appropriate link below to learn how to enable this in a few simple steps. Keep in mind, sometimes nothing works better than just cleaning up that email you have been saving for the last 10 years to speed things up!

Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010

Did you notice any increase in performance or able to take advantage of keeping a local copy of your email?
