Apple Server 10.7.1 – update to fix many issues, but breaks another vital feature?
Apple released OS X 10.7.1 a couple days ago, the first maintenance update to OS X Lion. It can be updated via Software update, or by standalone combo installer, downloadable from Apple’s support site.
This update is recommended for all users running OS X Lion and features general OS fixes. These fixes include: (as quoted by Apple)
- Addressing an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari.
- Resolving an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out.
- Improving the reliability of Wi-Fi connections.
- Resolving an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion.
For detailed information on this update, please visit this website:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4764.
Apple set aside a separate version of OS X 10.7.1 pertaining to the most recent MacBook Air and Mac mini models, including a few additional items.
- Resolving an issue where MacBook Air may boot up when MagSafe Adapter is attached
- Resolving an issue causing intermittent display flickering on MacBook Air.
- Resolving an issue that causes the SD card slot in Mac mini to run at reduced speed with SD and SDHC media.
Apple also released an OS X Lion Update 10.7.1 Server update for computers running the 10.7 Server OS, improving the reliability of the Apple File Service, and a unique OS X Lion 10.7.1.
However, some users upgrading to Server 10.7.1, will experience an issue where they can no longer login to their server admin or management consoles. I in fact experienced this myself upon update, and immediately started scrambling to resolved…(which I secretly love to do).
I have the fix! So if you experience this issue, open up Terminal from /Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities – and enter the following:
This command will prompt you for a password, type in your administrator password (same you use for software updates), and hit enter.
You should be able to login to your server admin console once again.
Good luck!
